Singing Masterclass |
English text |
Sunday 22nd - Saturday 28th August
Teachers
The singing masterclass will be given by Nicholas Clapton (http://www.nicholasclapton.com/), professor of Singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and also a Visiting Professor at the Liszt Music Academy in Budapest (http://www.lfze.hu/).
Gabriella Gyökér, a widely-experienced accompanist and herself a Professor at the Liszt Academy, will accompany the singing class, although participants who are in an established duo partnership with their own accompanist are welcome to bring them.
A maximum of eight singers will be taken on the course, to ensure that each participant may work with the teachers every day. Each singer must prepare at least one song by Liszt, but otherwise the repertoire is entirely open. Practice rooms will be available at the Music School for participants' use when they are not performing in the class itself.

Applications
Anyone interested in taking part in this masterclass should contact Nicholas Clapton through his web-site (there is a “click-through” at the top of each page), enclosing a C V. The course is primarily designed for advanced students of any age, and for young professional singers.
Attendance
All classes will be open to the public, admission by ticket only; details to be announced.
Travel, accommodation and meals
Participants should arrange their own travel and accommodation.
Air travel to Hungary is easy and need not be expensive, since several budget airlines now serve Budapest. Esztergom is about 90 minutes by slow and picturesque train from Budapest, which costs around £7/€8/2200HuF return.
A wide range of accommodation is available in Esztergom during the Liszt Week (prices range from around £10/€12/3000HuF per night for basic hostel accommodation, about £30/€35/10000HuF in a comfortable “Panzion”, to over £100/€120/30000HuF in a luxury hotel).
Meals: eating out is a joy in Esztergom, and visitors from abroad will be delighted by the good value (and often huge portions!)
Assistance with travel from Budapest to Esztergom and in choosing accommodation can be provided by the course's organisers.
